The Friends of Gleason Public Library present the “I went for a walk in the woods” Short Story Contest! Stories should be 2500 words or less and address the prompt, “I went for a walk in the woods…” in some way. $100 prize for the best story submitted in each age group (5th-8th Grade, 9th-12th Grade, and Adult). Contest Rules & Information:

  • Contestants may submit one original, unpublished story.
  • Categories: 5th-8th Grade, 9th-12th Grade, & Adult
  • Entries should be emailed to director@gleasonlibrary.org as a Word or PDF attachment by April 11th at 5:00 PM.
  • All entries must include a cover sheet with author’s name, age group, and contact information. To facilitate blind judging, names and contact information should not appear on other pages of the story entry.
  • Entries must be the work of a single author, no collaborations. Anonymous entries are not eligible for prizes.
  • Participants must live or work in Carlisle
  • Stories may not exceed 2,500 words
  • Stories must address the prompt, “I went for a walk in the woods…” in some way.
  • Winning stories in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony on 5/4. Winners will receive $100 and have their story published in The Mosquito and on the library website.
