Bent nails are stuck in the lock plate, and the ramrod is stuck into the barrel. In white paint on the barrel is written, "First Days Fight". Engraved into the lock plate is "1868".
More information:
According to the conservator, the unattached ramrod is unlikely to belong to the carbine.
