ABOUT OUR LAWN MARQUEE
Maybeth Fandel Sonn
The Gleason Public Library marquee, installed July 2012, was designed by Levi & Wong Design Associates Inc., constructed by Colonial Steel Corp. and donated in honor of Maybeth Fandel Sonn of Carlisle, by the Sonn Family. Maybeth was a librarian and a lifelong lover of books and reading. She prized the Gleason Library, which she, her children and grandchildren used avidly, and where she worked as a reference librarian. A native of West Roxbury, Maybeth graduated from Emmanuel College with a degree in history and received a masters of library science from Simmons College. Maybeth loved to read, especially to her grandchildren, and worked for many years as a librarian, beginning at the Emmanuel College Library and concluding at the Gleason Library, from which she retired in 1998.
Maybeth, a Carlisle resident for 35 years beginning in 1974, was the beloved wife of Edward Sonn of Carlisle, whom she married in 1963, and the mother of Kathryn Klickstein of Carlisle, Paul Sonn of Brooklyn, and Eugene Sonn of Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Maybeth worked tirelessly raising her three children who, together with her grandchildren, were her pride and passion.
Maybeth also cherished flowers and gardening. She studied landscape design and operated a small business planning and tending gardens. She was never happier than when she was with her flowers. The St. Irene Parish gardens in Carlisle, which Maybeth designed and cared for, were later named in her honor.
