LIBRARY ASSISTANT II
The Gleason Public Library is seeking two energetic and customer-service focused employees to fill two part-time Library Assistant II positions (9 or 10 hrs/week each, including 1 evening, plus 1 Saturday/month)

Description: The purpose of this position is to provide customer service and circulation services to all customers of the Gleason Public Library. General duties include checking materials in and out; answering the telephone; maintaining neatness and organization throughout the library; assisting customers of all ages in the basic use and selection of library materials and services; and covering the youth reference desk. Hours:
Position #1: Monday 5-9pm, Wednesday 12-6pm, and every 4th Saturday (10am-5pm Sept-Jun, 10am-1pm Jul-Aug)
Position #2: Tuesday 5-9pm, Friday 9am-2pm, and every 4th Saturday (10am-5pm Sept-Jun, 10am-1pm Jul-Aug)

Additional hours sometimes available due to staff vacation or illness.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required plus a minimum of one year of customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Successful candidates will have excellent communication and customer service skills and be comfortable with computers. Previous library experience, including experience with Symphony or other library software, and a strong interest in reading are preferred.

Salary: $21.47 /hour

PART-TIME TEMPORARY TEEN LIBRARIAN
This is a part-time, non-benefited, temporary position to cover a staff leave expected mid-January through late April 2020. Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead programs for youth in grades 5 through 12 and assist with children’s programs
  • Assist in collection development and cataloging for teen collection
  • Provide general reference assistance and reader’s advisory to children, teens, and adults
  • Assist patrons of all ages with library computers, personal technology, and digital library collections
  • Have fun and create a welcoming environment for teens and all library users

Hours are 3 days per week including 1 evening, plus 1 Saturday per month (approx. 23 hrs/week average). Other duties include circulation, reference, interlibrary loan, opening and closing procedures. For full job description, click here.

Carlisle is a small residential town about 20 miles northwest of Boston. With a population around 5,000, Carlisle has a rural feel and strong community spirit. Gleason Public Library is well-supported and a center of activity in our town.

Qualifications: Masters of Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution and 1 year of public library experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job. MLS students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $27.81/hr
